Aurora Patents is looking for a patent paralegal to help with patent portfolio and deadline management, patent application and prosecution filings, and business administration.

What we do: We specialize in working with early-stage life science, medical device, digital health, and software companies to develop valuable patent portfolios through highly tailored, comprehensive strategies. We scale with our clients’ needs and deeply understand the nuances of technology and patent strategy, and how to tie them effectively to business objectives.

Who we are: We are a fully distributed company with a culture that promotes a high degree of autonomy, work ownership, and quality at every step. You work where, when, and how you want – with others who have a deep passion for technology. We are engineers and scientists first. Our team has multiple advanced engineering and science degrees.

What you’ll do: You will help us navigate a very dynamic growth stage by assisting, as needed, in a wide array of disciplines, including:

  • Patent Related Filings. You will prepare necessary filing documents for timely filing of patent applications and prosecution documents.
  • Patent Portfolio Management. We tailor our deliverables, workflows, and meetings for every client. You will work closely with our patent practitioners to create meaningful portfolio insights for our clients.
  • Client Service. You will help us continue our growth trajectory by delivering the highest quality service possible. This includes exceptional communication skills, ruthless prioritization and organizational skills, and an ability to see what needs to be done and get it done.
  • Remote Office Hero. Helping with additional administrative tasks like preparing client contracts, scheduling meetings, preparing quotes, and booking travel would also be immensely beneficial to the team.
  • Deadline and Docket Management. As a secondary role, while working closely with team members and our docketing service, you will ensure that team members and clients are aware of and on top of all relevant deadlines, update project management boards with deadlines, manage information flow between email and our various software systems and our team members and clients, and develop and maintain processes to drive internal efficiencies.

Who you are: You have an undying love for people and supporting inventors and team members with the highest level of quality, high-touch service. Ideally, you’ll also have a good mix of the following:

  • Education. Bachelor’s degree and/or patent paralegal certificate.
  • Experience. 4+ years as an experienced patent prosecution paralegal either in-house at a company or with a law firm.
  • Technology. AppColl whiz and experience with Microsoft products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Trello, and Google products (Sheets, Docs, Gmail).
  • U.S. & International. Experience in preparing U.S. and international filings (through U.S. or IB as the receiving office) via Patent Center, PCTeasy, and ePCT, including preparation of formal documents such as assignments, declarations, powers of attorney, and petitions.
  • Prosecution pro. Ability to proactively create response shells, client reports, and prosecution documents. Experience in preparing information disclosure statements and managing the surrounding processes.
  • Effective sleuth. Ability to locate bibliographic data for patent filings from any jurisdiction.
  • Hyper-organized, crisp communicator. Excellent organizational, verbal communication, and writing skills.
  • Intuitive collaborator. Team player with proven ability to work with dynamic and diverse groups of patent agents, engineers, inventors, and business and strategy teams.
  • Hungry for autonomy. Ability to self-direct, manage, motivate, and take personal ownership and responsibility for driving results and achieving milestones. Prior experience working remotely in a distributed environment is helpful.
  • Nimble. Comfortable wearing many hats while prioritizing and managing multiple deadlines.
  • OCD about detail. Possess strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Opportunity: This is a fully remote, part-time role with a flexible work week. The position is salaried for a guaranteed 20 hours per week and payable at an hourly rate for any hours above 20. Benefits include 401k with match and paid time off. We are experiencing steady growth, sparked mainly by client love and referrals, so there’s significant potential for this to evolve into a full-time role for the right person. Let’s talk!

Location Note: Some job boards require us to specify a city, but we're fully distributed, so you can work from any reasonably well-Internet-connected location in the U.S.
